Cheeze wiz is one of those foods everyone pretends not to like, but honestly-we all know that we do like to eat it. If made at home it actually isn't completely horrible for you and if you start with homemade Velveeta you will completely cut out excess preservatives, sodium, and sugars. as a bonus this saves a lot of money! Here is a great recipe to enjoy!
Full time: 1 hour (includes cool down time)
Makes 2 cups cheese sauce
You will need:
1/2 lb. homemade or store bought Velveeta
6 oz evaporated milk
2 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground dry mustard
1/8 tsp hot sauce
Let us begin:
Dice Velveeta into small cubes.
Place cubes and all remaining ingredients in a heavy duty Pyrex bowl or top to a double boiler.
Set a medium pot or bottom of double boiler, over medium high heat and bring several cups of water to a boil.
Once boiling place bowl (or double boiler top) over and stir until uniform and smooth texture. This will take approximately 8-10 minutes.
Remove from heat to storage container.
Allow to full cool before sealing, store for 3 months, enjoy!
