PRODUCT REVIEW: Babycakes Cake Pop Maker

Product Review: I want to start by saying this is not a paid advertisement, I speak for myself only, no companies have given me anything for this review. My opinions are completely my own.

Overview: Babycakes Cake Pop Maker. Fantastic love it, almost as great as my cupcake maker!

I know, I know, another gadget right? But to be completely honest I bought this one because, I love my cupcake maker so much! And although they are not made by the same company, the technology is the same.

The cake pop or donut hole maker is great for quick and easy desserts, fun decorative favors, and just a great yummy treat.  I was able to make 60 in under 30 minutes and that includes decoration time!

Having the ability to create handmade, decorative, edible gifts or party favors is a great thing. Imagine for your next holiday party, hostess gift, or even bake sale having store bought quality cakepops! This machine is a major help and can make is so you have just that!

How it works: Just like the Sunbeam Cupcake maker it bakes at an extremely high heat, in small batches, and bakes top/bottom simultaneously. This allows the machine to bake evenly and rapidly.  Again, there are a good and bad points to the machine, let's start with the good.
  1. It bakes in 5 minute batches.
  2. It heats up and cools down in under 5 minutes
  3. It works with either box mix or handmade batters
  4. You bake in small batches so, you can alter how much batter you mix and make exactly what you want.
  5. It is super simple to clean.
  6. It come with a cute little fork which makes the balls literally just pop out.
  7. It bakes from all sides at the same time, so you won't ever have those random raw spots
  8. The balls cool in under 5 minutes, which means easy quick decoration time.
  9. It comes with a great decoration holder, which holds 12 sticks for easy dipping/drying.

Now, let's talk about the few bad
  1. It bakes in batches of 12, so it does take a few batches to use a whole box of mix (although you can be eating the first batch while cooking the next)
  2. It bakes at an extremely high temperature that it isn't child friendly baking. I have a "cupcake"  which is now also a "cake ball" zone, no getting within 2' of the machine, but helping hands love mixing batters and eating finished products
  3. Storage, it is after all another kitchen gadget or appliance so you do need a place to store it.
  4. It comes with a great decoration holder, which holds 12 sticks for easy dipping/drying. Which means you can't do all of the decoration at once if you need them to stand or drip dry.
  5. The balls require only 1 tbsp of batter, makes it awkward at first to figure out how to fill. But I found that placing the batter in a zip top bag or pastry bag (just like squeezing out frosting) works great.

When all is said and done, if you take the good and the bad, this machine really turns out to be a major help. Now, I will admit that the more traditional cake pop is made with sheet cake which is broken up, mixed with frosting, formed into a ball, and then decorated. But honestly who really has time to do all of that when it could be done in a quarter of the time and also, solid cake tastes just as great and has half the sugar! Making this not only faster but healthier and as a bonus if you use donut batter you have a great machine for making donut holes!
