"Shake n Bake" is one of those childhood reminiscent ingredients. I can remember my mom letting me shake the bag as a child and thinking the chicken was great, especially since I helped. As I got older I replaced "Shake n Bake" with various versions if chicken coating, but never really thought to give it a homemade whirl.
Making homemade foods is a great way to avoid excess preservatives, sodium, sugars, and honestly saves a lot of money! Here is a great to know, classic recipe which can be made ahead of time and stored for 3 months!
Full time: 10 minutes
Makes 2 cups (will coat 4 lbs. chicken)
You will need:
2 cups panko bread crumbs slightly crushed
2 1/2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp paprika
1/2 tbsp celery salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp dried parsley
Let us begin:
In a large zip top bag combine all ingredients.
Seal and shake bag to fully blend.
Remove excess air and seal if storing.
If using remember to dip chicken in either milk or water lightly before tossing into bag.
Shake chicken in sealed bag to fully coat.
Bake at 375 until internal temp reaches 170-approximately 30 minutes, enjoy!
