HOW TO: Roast Butternut Squash

Butternut Squash is one of the best things to roast. You can easily serve it in large chunks or mashed. It easily can be served just lightly buttered or spiced up.

Roasting a squash could seem a little intimidating but, it is easy and extremely simple. Any squash can easily be roasted by following these simple steps:

First your going to want to remove any stickers or labels from the outside of your squash. Gently wash the outside if your squash with warm water and dry off completely.

Stand the squash on it's end and slice down the center to cut in half.

Scoop the seeds and strings out of the middle with a large spoon.

Cut each half if the squash in half to create four pieces.

Place quarters on a foil lines baking sheet.

Lightly drizzle olive oil over the meat of the squash, brush around oil with a basting brush.

Place 1 tsp butter into each hollow of the squash.

If desired season the top of the squash with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, or ginger.

If desired place a small amount of brown sugar into the hollow on top of the butter.

Bake in a preheated 350 oven, for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, use a basting brush to spread melted butter from hallow over the whole top of squash.
 
 

Return squash to oven for another 20 minutes or until the squash is easily forked. This means if you can easily pierce the meat with a fork.

Your squash can know be served or you can remove the skin, place it in a bowl, add a small amount of butter and mash it.
