HOW TO: Make a Giant Cookie

Love those giant cookies you see in the grocery store? They are great for office parties, birthday parties, and any fun occasion!

Making giant cookies is relatively easy. The only thing you have to do is bake one cookie! Really, it's that easy. Of course, the dough needs a little more discussion. In order to make a giant cookie, you will need a faster cookie dough which is thicker. Perfect cookie doughs for this are:
-Chocolate Chip Cookies
-Oatmeal Cookies
-Coconut Cookies
-Macadamia nut Cookies
-Gingerbread* Cookies
-Kitchen Sink Cookies
-Candy Cookies

You will probably notice a second common occurrence with the doughs mentioned. They are "stuff" cookies, meaning the dough contains chips or texture of some sort. That is very necessary when forming a giant cookie. Plain cookie dough will spread a little more and is hard to time the baking just right. The edges will bake to almost a crisp before the center sets.

This isn't to say you can't use a basic sugar cookie or snicker doodle cookie dough, it's just to say it might not come out as you plain. The exception to this begin gingerbread dough, as it doesn't spread as much and can be shaped better before baking.

So how do you make a giant cookie? Well begin by selecting your dough, make sure it will be a thicker cookie dough. Anything that can be scooped is good. Also, you need a recipe which will yield 3-4 dozen cookies to ensure the right amount if dough.

Your now all set to begin:

First preheat your oven to recipe required temperature.

Next grease a round pizza baking pan, roughly 11".

Now simply prepare your dough according to recipe and press dough into a flat circle roughly 1/4" thick on the greased pan.

Top with extra stuff, chips, candy coated chocolate pieces, coconut, nuts, sprinkles, or you could leave plain.

Place round tray onto a flat baking tray, the dough may spread over the edge of round pan but it will still hold shape.

Look at baking time, place in oven and set you timer for its required baking time according to recipe.

When timer goes off, rotate pan 180 and continue to bake for 5 minutes.

If needed: Repeat until center is set, but most doughs will only require additional 5 minutes.

Remove from oven and allow to cool on pan for 5-8 minutes.

Slice like a pizza into 8 wedges if desired or allow it to cool as 1 solid cookie.

Decorate and enjoy at your event!
