BAKE IT: Cheddar Beer Bread

Beer is an interesting ingredient to bake and cook with. It brings a richness to dishes in ways hard to explain. The easiest way to use beer when baking is in bread, simply, easy and the hops take on the rising part wonderfully. Just remember to use self-rising flour, having to use flour and baking powder or soda can get tricky.

Makes 1 loaf
Full time: 1 1/2 hours (includes slight cool time)

You will need:

12 ounce bottle beer
3 cups self-rising flour
3/4 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted

Let us begin:

Preheat oven to 350 and lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan.

In a large bowl combine beer, flour, cheese, and sugar.

Pour into the lightly greased pan.

Bake in oven for 35-45 minutes until it looks set and almost done.

Pour over melted butter and return to oven for 10 minutes.

Remove and allow to cool in pan slightly before turning out.

Turn out from pan and serve warm or allow to cool completely before wrapping.

Enjoy!
